Warner Bros. Tilts War in Blu-Ray’s Favour?

Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and the rest of the gang have always been popular with us consumers. Not to mention that in reality, they still have a good slice of business – so when they switched from a joint HD-DVD/Blu-Ray effort to exclusively supporting Blu-Ray, I reconsidered the whole war. Looks like the stalemate is slowly shifting to Blu-Ray’s favour; although many, such as myself, have hinted that Blu-Ray might be in a winning position, HD-DVD has never actually been out of the game.
I recently read an article on how the writer’s spouse suggested getting an HD-DVD player simply because the name made sense (stepping up from DVD to HD-DVD) – and although this never occured to me, the logic really makes sense – and it shook my faith in Blu-Ray a bit. Many bits against Blu-Ray denounced its fragility and prices and its player’s prices (which are a bit outrageous, but are slowly lowering). Not to mention the Xbox 360 add-on is ever so popular.

Blu-Ray’s still got some things going for it though, including much support from the Playstation 3 camp – and now, reinforcements in the form of Porky Pig – a favourite character of mine. And although it didn’t end the stalemate, it still struck a huge blow towards Toshiba and their HD-DVD format – so much so that they had to cancel their CES 2008 press conference in order to regroup. Dang.
Some things to consider would be whether or not another movie production group will take one step and further end the stalemate, or end up balancing things out again. Personally, I’m a huge fan of competition, but I can’t wait for the stalemate to be over so that I can finally get one of those babies without the risk of having it be the abandoned format. Also, with Blu-Ray gaining Warner Bros., what will HD-DVD’s next step be? Look forward to the press conference, and to CES 2008.
This story just keeps getting more interesting. I was a bit too young to remember the Betamax versus VHS scenarios, but I’m kind of sad that I never got to try Betamax – it’s name sounds really cool.
