Cutline on CutEdge

As you might have noticed, CutEdge looks kind of naked at the moment.  I’m trying my best to modify it, and I’m afraid you just happened to come in at the wrong time, haha.  Don’t fret, everything is still accessible including the widgets and ads, so you can click around and navigate while I redecorate.

The Dusk of 2007

With the setting of the sun comes the dusk of 2007.  This year has been a memorable one for myself and for my trusty blog CutEdge, and hopefully for you too.  I wish you a happy new year, and a great 2008!  I know I’ve certainly got a ton of stuff planned for this blog (a GUI I’m going to stick with, for one thing).  Thanks for reading and I hope you stick around in 2008 to continue to watch the blog grow!

Merry Christmas, Readers!

It’s now the twenty-fifth of December in 2007, and undoubtedly you’re probably sitting at home or at a relatives house just enjoying Christmas. I myself just arrived in Connecticut today after flying in a pretty small plane, which in itself was a very interesting experience to say the least. I hope you have a great day and had fun unwrapping those presents.

Sincerely,

Herbert

Hundredth Post!

In case you haven’t noticed, this is the hundredth post on the blog known as CutEdge, formerly known as Herb’s Blurbs.  I’ve actually been looking forward to this one for a while now, as I consider it a really major milestone!  To be quite frank, I never thought that I would be interested in blogging enough to actually make it to the big three digits, but it’s turned out to be a much more appealing medium than I thought it would be.

Breaking the million-barrier on Alexa yesterday, together we have pushed CutEdge to a rank of 975,579 in an average of three months.  I’d like to thank you for reading CutEdge and hope to continue to provide you readers with more information and opinions on the latest technological news.

As for the future of CutEdge, there will be no hiatuses that I can see in the near future, nor will there be any doubt that CutEdge will continue on business as usual.  Hopefully I’ll be more punctual and consistent – I really resolve to publish an article everyday.  Unfortunately, I’ve still got a lot of things (including a professional review opportunity right now), so I’ll have to try my best to do both.  Thanks for your patience!

Er, about that announcement on no post today, looks like I had a little extra time at school.  :)

Anticipation and Alexa

Sorry about this, my dear readers, but due to tonight being filled with an appointment from school, I’m afraid I won’t have time to write much.  Nor will I be able to tomorrow, as I’ll similarly be busy at an appointment (I’m a busy man, ya know).

Just wanted you dear readers to realize that I’m trying to be as consistent as I can and resolve to get to you everyday – whether it’s simply a disappointing message like this or with another fancy dancy one of my reviews (er, more like me-views)

However, why don’t I introduce you to http://alexa.com?

Alexa is a web information company that measures traffic and then ranks the traffic for each site.  The lower the rank, the more popular your site.  Currently Google is ranked 68, APH Networks is sitting at 52,757, and PC World retains the spot of 1,347.  As for CutEdge, together we recently broke through the million mark and are now resting on the border with a rank of 975,579 (a funky number, I know).  Please be advised that this is the three month average and not the weekly average.

If you want to contribute to collecting information for Alexa in order to make their ranking more accurate, why not download the Alexa toolbar? Visit http://www.alexa.com/site/download for more info.

And stick around for Saturday’s edition – I assure you, it’ll be huge. Need I mention the word “Milestone”?

A Change in Domain

Alright, dear readers – the moment you’ve been waiting for: CutEdge has finally acquired a new domain.  You might be relieved to discover that you don’t have to remember the longer “.aphnetworks.com” part of the URL, as now you can simply key in “http://cutedge.org” to reach this site.

But didn’t you just type in the old subdomain?  Yep.  Both of the domains work, of course, but I suggest that you press CTRL+D and bookmark Cutedge.org, as I plan on removing the subdomain in the future.

Remember, folks: the new address will be http://cutedge.org.  And in case you were wondering – that’s exactly the reason why CutEdge has been a bit quiet as of late.  No worries though, things will return to normal once again (whatever that is).  Thanks for sticking with me!

Sincerely,

Herbert

Arise from the ashes, CutEdge!

The hiatus has ended, and I, Herbert Lui, am back.

After a couple of days of soul-searching, and a visit to Indigo (where I was inspired and challenged by a book I found – but didn’t buy, ha ha), I realized that I had been going about blogging all wrong.

So, after a few priority shifts, a bit more planning, and a new makeover (it took me a couple of days to find a theme that I liked and described CutEdge well), I’m back. I do hope to bring you more quality articles and news until at least the end of the year 2007. Then I can look back, make some resolutions, lick my wounds, and keep going.

I could use some moral support. So why not register now? Registering is quick, easy, and free. It makes you part of the CutEdge community (and just might get you an avatar). I’m still working things out, but I am looking for a few guest bloggers. So why not apply? Send me an e-mail at luiavenues[at]gmail.com.

So it arose (after a mere three days) with a new look. But that’s not going to be the only new thing around here.

Hiatus?

Time to tell you loyal readers about the status of CutEdge.

As you might have noticed by now, the blog seems to be lacking a few updates.  Let me explain: during the past couple of weeks of volunteering at a day camp, I have hardly had the time to write in my blog.  I sincerely apologize for this – especially for you really dedicated followers of CutEdge.

I am currently considering going on a hiatus – both to continue my education and to pursue a few of my other interests.  However, this is just an idea; I love writing (it’s been a passion of mine), so I really hold my blog close to me.

This vibrant orange skin is also to be temporary; I miss the old Freshy theme I used, as it seemed to be an excellent blend of professionalism and technology, but unfortunately, I realize that many various other websites function on that template as well.  I do want CutEdge to be more unique.  I’ve had readers describe this orange skin as “spiffy”, but I myself am not too satisfied.

Rest assured, reader, because CutEdge will arise from the ashes once again (that is, if it falls).  If I can make it happen, it will arise with a new look and a few more columns and regular write-ups (hint: I’ve done a lot of tinkering around, and I’ve got plenty to write about – including fooling around with Ubuntu.  Look it up if you don’t know what it is!).

I’ve gotten a good concept of how to run the blog now.  So the next time I’m back, it will be for sure.  Later days.

CutEdge: The new site.

Here at CutEdge, the site formerly known as Herb’s Blurbs, we have undergone some (major) re-branding. Same site, same material; different name, different look. It is your gizmo and software blog, but it is not your regular tech site.

I do thank you for spending the effort to find me back here, and I hope you have a nice day. Look forward to more updates very soon!

In the meantime, if you are an appreciator of architecture, you can visit my sister blog called NeoView. They are related, but they’ve got nothing much else in common. See you around!

Officially part of Technorati!

Well, a few weeks ago, I discovered my blog was (already) tracked by Technorati. However, now I have officially made an account to claim my blog! So, it’s just a minor update; that, and I need those Technorati Spiders to find me. :)
