About
CutEdge is a weblog that focuses on many various aspects of electronics and software: all the way from free open-source software to the latest gadgets, and basically every other trend in the ever so wide field of consumer electronics.
A problem well-defined is a problem half-solved.
You need a new MP3 player. Or a new TV. You can’t choose between the HTC Touch HD or the iPhone.
The problem is there are tons of consumer electronics nowadays. Engadget and Gizmodo post numerous times daily, overloading the average reader (you) with too wide a selection. There’s just too many consumer electronics out there!
Not to worry, there are various solutions to this problem:
- Complain to all the companies and tell them to stop making such a variety of products. Sure, it sounds silly — and personally, I believe such variety makes each product unique for each user.
- Have someone else keep you posted on the information, while retaining high quality and true facts but not overdoing it. Who’s to keep you posted though?
My name is Herbert Lui, and I am the author, editor, and administrator here at CutEdge. My credentials:
- I am a reviewer and editor on APH Networks, writing reports for products such as Ultramon 3.0, PCMark Vantage, and Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.
- I can usually translate geek language into English…though I’ll admit the magic doesn’t happen all the time.
- I’ve been featured on QuickOnlineTips as a guest author.
- It’s been more than a year since I started CutEdge, so you can say I know my way around the blogosphere. Sort of.
- I’ve served an internship at a tech manufacturing company where I learned much about the world of operating systems and open-source software..
Arguably, I sound like a normal guy, right? And who else would be best to recommend products, than someone keeping an eye out for the normal people in this world, while having the knowledge and information to be able to judge between excellent and poor products?
I had an immense advantage over many others dealing with the problem inasmuch as I had no fixed ideas derived from long established practice to control and bias my mind, and did not suffer from the general belief that whatever is, is right.
In an ideal world, people would be able to make decisions for themselves. However, I believe that in this imperfect world, being bombarded with commercials that boast and having too diverse of a market, it’s nearly impossible and almost overwhelming for the average Joe to pick a product. And so, I, Herbert H. Lui, will take up the responsibility of reviewing and helping you find the perfect product or software, one piece at a time.
