A Change in Domain
No comments yetPosted in AnnouncementsOct 7, 2007
Read more »Alright, dear readers – the moment you’ve been waiting for: CutEdge has finally acquired a new domain. You might be relieved to discover that you don’t have to remember the longer “.aphnetworks.com” part of the URL, as now you can simply key in “http://cutedge.org” to reach this site.
But didn’t you just type in the old subdomain? Yep. Both of the domains work, of course, but I suggest that you press CTRL+D and bookmark Cutedge.org, as I plan on removing the subdomain in the future.
Remember, folks: the new address will be http://cutedge.org. And in case you were wondering – that’s exactly the reason why CutEdge has been a bit quiet as of late. No worries though, things will return to normal once again (whatever that is). Thanks for sticking with me!
Sincerely,
Herbert

Possibly a PS3 for the Masses?

Read more »You want the Playstation 3, but it’s way out of budget. Or maybe you just won a contest and have several extra hundred dollars to spend. Or you’re considering investing in a Blu-ray player and were planning on making the switch anyway. Well, there’s great news to be heard through the grapevine: Sony is going to be marketing a 40GB variant of the Playstation 3, making it a whole less expensive by cutting a few features. But which ones?

The most significant one will definitely be the apparent lack of any and all backward-compatibility; with such an avid crowd of Playstation 2 fans (resulting in many games purchased for the console), how could Sony throw out such a feature, which should be software-based and thus his relatively cheaper (I’m acting on a guess here)? Oh yeah, there will now be (only?) two USB ports and no more memory reader. Not too devastating (in my opinion).
Excited? If not, maybe your console is a Wii – which I do have now. Alright, so I’ll stop bragging, haha. But seriously, consider the PS3 a very feasible option now! I’m guessing the price will range from $400 to $500, so I can’t see a reason not to give it some thought.

Stream it to your Wii

Read more »Out of the three combatants in the console war, the Wii would definitely be out-gunned in the media department. The Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 have blu-ray and hd-dvd functions respectively, and have hard drives that seem like behemoths compared to the Wii’s simple SD card storage. Not to mention MP3 playback and functionality that the Wii just can’t seem to match. Right?
Wrong. Introducing Orb 2.0, a software client that will allow you to stream your uploaded media to your Wii via the internet channel. The software itself is free, but the internet channel will cost a meazly 500 Wii points (I suggest you put another 1000 into Mario Kart 64, and save the 500 for some thing worthwhile).
I have yet to purchase a Wii Points card, so I can’t say from personal experience that this is THE media centre. However, from a little research and forum lurking, I can definitely see that people have benefited from this piece of software. Why not give it a shot? There’s hardly anything to lose.
